Organic Epimedium Extract is, as the name implies, extracted from organic epimedium. Epimedium, also known as barrenwort, bishop’s hat, fairy wings, horny goat weed, or Yin Yang Huo, is a genus of flowering plants in the family Berberidaceae. The majority of the species are endemic to China, with smaller numbers elsewhere in Asia and a few in the Mediterranean region. The major Curcuma cultivating provinces of China is Shannxi, Gansu, Shanxi, Henan, Qinghai, Hubei, Sichuan, etc.
Epimedium species are deciduous or evergreen hardy perennials, the species used as a dietary supplement is Epimedium grandiflorum. It contains icariin, which is a weak PDE5 inhibitor in vitro.
Epimedium is used for weak back and knees, joint pain, osteoarthritis, mental and physical fatigue, memory loss, high blood pressure, heart disease, bronchitis, liver disease, HIV/AIDS, polio, a blood disorder called chronic leucopenia, viral infections of the heart, bone loss after menopause, weak bones (osteoporosis), and as a tonic. Some men use horny goat weed for sexual performance problems including erectile dysfunction and involuntary ejaculation.
